Newly Engaged….What’s first on the list?

Wedding Planning Process

You have the date. Now what? Everyone’s timeline is a little different but if you’re overwhelmed with where to start here is a short list to ease your mind.

1. Start a budget. This is the best place to begin. Knowing, right away, how much you want to spend will help keep you on track. It is wise to allow for a little financial room. There are always those “last minute” incidentals which are forgotten.
2. Designate who is paying for what. If you are a fortunate soul with financial help designate, from the start, who is in charge of what to alleviate confusion later on.
3. Consider hiring a wedding planner. This could be anyone from a professional (Call the SteamPlant for options) to a cousin willing to take on the task. Having a “go to” person helps to eliminate stress leading up to the date and helps with the flow of your ceremony and reception; allowing you, the bride, to simply enjoy your day.
4. Send your engagement photo to your local paper. This gets people talking and encourages offers of help (as well as building excitement for you and your fiancé.)
5. Begin thinking about the honeymoon. (Really this is the most important part!)
6. Visit and book your ceremony/reception site. Beatrice or Shannon will give you a tour of the SteamPlant. It is possible to have your rehearsal/ceremony/and reception, all, right here!
7. Create a save-the-date guest list. Send an email to out-of-town guests giving them ample time to arrange travel plans.
8. Meet with caterers, florists and photographers. First—insure they are available for your wedding date.
9. Book a DJ or band.
10. Choose your officiant and discuss ceremony ideas.

These items should be checked off your list 6 months prior to your wedding date.
