The SteamPlant is a stylish, urban venue in downtown Salida linked by a plaza to the banks of the Arkansas River, and surrounded by stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. She is an “urban” venue in the sense that she is situated right in the heart of downtown Salida and is literally a renovated 1887 steam power plant with century-old brick walls. The brick adds character and style to any wedding reception, with or without extensive decorations. The river is an intricate part of what makes our urban venue as beautiful as it is and couples love taking advantage of our location for those picture-perfect moments both in town and along the water..
We absolutely love it when couples take full advantage of our venue’s attributes and keep it simple.
And that’s exactly what Anna and Dan did for their celebration. They stuck to their roots as water-lovers and utilized the Arkansas River as one of the main backdrops of their photos. They utilized the SteamPlant’s historical charm, without going over the top with buckets and buckets of flowers or other extensive decorations hanging from the ceiling. It was absolutely perfect.
Anna and Dan made their own photobooth frame, scrapped the traditional guestbook idea for a more personalized paddle for guests to sign, swapped out a giant wedding cake for a smaller cake and cupcakes, and celebrated their wedding day with an elegant simplicity that our team of Event Coordinators truly admired.
Planning a wedding can be overwhelming – there’s no doubt about it. There are so many wedding blogs, pinterest boards, instagram posts, and articles out there to inspire ideas. Our advice – when wading through the details, don’t rule out the possibility of keeping things perfectly simple. Use your venue’s attributes and include fun ideas for dessert, photo opportunities, and guestbooks that fit YOU. Spend your budget on what matters, not on the frilly things that you think you need because that’s what’s trending for 2018. After all, it is YOUR day.
A big thank you to Autumn Twilight Photography for shooting Anna and Dan’s wedding. The photos are stunning!
