Step Away For a Fresh Perspective

I couldn’t help myself; I had to share this view with you. This is my view, everyday, and it can be yours whenever you want…

The SteamPlant is receiving calls daily from newly engaged couples. I think of my own life and have to wonder…how do they find the time to plan a wedding in the midst of their daily lives? Some fiancés are in the military. Others are full-time students. Couple this with the necessity to work for a living and I ask again…how do they find the time?

Stress release is vital right now. This is why I live in such a beautiful place (and why so many want to wed here). I can walk outside the SteamPlant and be on BLM (public) land in about 5 minutes. The river is literally outside my door. It is easy for me to step out of the situations that are creating stress for me and step into play mode. Salida is the perfect town for this. We have about 6,000 fulltime residents. And, my guess, all are into some form of outdoor “something”, whether it’s hiking, skiing/boarding (the mountain is a 20 minute drive), boating, biking, climbing, summiting, rock hounding; really the list goes on and on and on.

Personally, I have a few hobbies but my favorite is just disappearing into the quiet spaces surrounding Salida. This weekend I went camping 30 minutes into the hills surrounding my home. I didn’t bring my cell phone (left it on the charger at home). I got away. Went hiking with three goofy mutts and read in the sun. I needed to disconnect from my daily life so I could return, rejuvenated. Are you rejuvenating yourself?

In the midst of this busy wedding planning period don’t forget to step away from it all. You won’t forget what needs to be done. God knows your mind will never let you. But with a little break you will return with a fresh eye and a relaxed mind.
